Mr. Garthe joined Smith Hood Perkins in 2007. Steve graduated Magna Cum Laude from Georgia State University in 1978 and earned his Juris Doctor, Cum Laude, as one of the top 6% of his graduating class at the University of Georgia School of Law. While at the University of Georgia, Steve was a member of the Order of the Coif and senior member of the editorial board of the Georgia Law Review. Upon graduation Steve served as a law clerk to Chief Justice Harold N. Hill, Jr. of the Georgia Supreme Court and then joined the firm of Jones, Bird & Howell (now known as Alston & Bird) in Atlanta, Georgia. Later he held the position of Senior Vice President and General Counsel for Regency Health Care Centers, Inc. Steve has joined the firm's civil litigation/business practice group. He represents clients in all aspects of commercial litigation, corporate and business law, as well as land use and zoning issues.
